9th Annual Perchin For Ms Ice Fishing Tournament Another Success!

Perchin for MS – Lake Simcoe’s Premier Ice Fishing Event would like to take this opportunity to say THANK YOU and CONGATS!
The 9th Annual Perchin for MS is proud to report another success.  One of Ontario’s top winter ice fishing events, held March 2, 2019 – saw TEAM ICE FISH – Roman Runo and Janusz Kawalec take the big win with 10 perch weighing 12.4lbs winning the Jack Link’s Jackpot of $4000 cash.

The annual Perchin for MS Ice Fishing event took place at Sibbald Point Provincial Park in the Town of Georgina.  Hosting 350 competitors from all over Ontario and into the United States, teams took to the ice to fish from 8 – 1pm.  With a challenging day of fishing ahead, teams had their work cut out for them, but obviously some teams made it count when it mattered.

The real winner of the day, was the cause itself.  The tournament held in support of Multiple Sclerosis keeps raising awareness about the illness.  It also continues to raise important funds used to assist those with MS as they fight back. To date and after this year’s event, Perchin for MS will have raised over $165000. Organizer and MS Sufferer, Doug Poirier couldn’t be prouder.  “This event has gone longer and done more than I ever imagined when I started it. I would like to first thank our top sponsor Jack Link’s Beef Jerky for their generous support.  I must also thank our other sponsors, local businesses, the Town of Georgina and most of all, our volunteers for all of your amazing support and assistance over the last 9 years.

We also would like to congratulate all the special contest winners as well.  Below are the top 10 tournament winning teams and special contest winners for 2019.

contests like the Humminbird Mystery weight.  Each year Humminbird donates fish finders to the team that hits the mystery weight. This year Team 90 – Paul Kokkinis and Jason Card won themselves two brand new Humminbird Fishfinders.

Also back by popular demand was The Rapala “Show us your gear” contest.  Teams had to post a picture of themselves on social media fishing with their Rapala gear.  The pictures were great once again and this year was won by Team 116 – Stephane and Lee Leroux.   Winners of this contest get an amazing $1000+ Rapala prize pack.

Special thanks also go out to our Auction sponsors – Lower Twin Lakes Lodge, St. Lawrence Outfitters, Gail’s Hotbox Huts, Bluewater Fishing Adventures, Waterfalls Lodge, Fatal Force Outfitters, Air Dale Lodge, Fishing4Tails, Fishsimcoe Hardwater Outfitters, Mitchell’s Fish Huts and Chaudiere Lodge.  Also a big thanks to raffle sponsors Sutton Home Hardware, Traeger Canada, and Keswick Canadian Tire for the snow blower, fishing kayak and Traeger Smoker grill.

Doug and the Perchin for MS crew hope everyone will continue to support this great cause.  Hoping to continue inspiring others with disabilities…Doug keeps doing this event even though his MS has continued to get worse.  Now using a wheelchair all of the time…it hasn't stopped him.  Doug continues to keep the fight going.  “ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE”, says Poirier.

Financial donations to this year’s event are still being accepted at www.perchinforms.com.

Event sponsors interested in joining us next year for our 10th Anniversary are already being encouraged.  Perchin for MS will be held next year on February 29, 2020.  Registration will open Nov. 1, 2019.
